"On October 9, 2006 North Korea announced that it has performed its first-ever nuclear weapon test." -wikipedia~ xD;! Well I had to quote it because I forgot the date... and then after reading it o.o I just felt like it was pretty to the point so I didn't feel like paraphrasing. But anyway, what was everyone's reaction? Did you guys even know? o.o If so, where did you find out, and when? If not, then umm....what is your current reaction?

For me o.o I was just opening up my Netscape browser and suddenly I see North Korea~ so I click on it o.o and when I read the news...well of course the first thing I thought of was "Oh #&*^#^%~ I want to be resting is peace by the time WWIII starts~!" I know~ >> how very selfish of me, but all I have to say is, I didn't start it -.- the people who did should pay, not the rest of the world! But~ yeah.

I actually saw this on the news like the day after they started testing. Personally, at the time and now, I thought that this would be a good time to move into North Korea and remove certain self appointed god. Seriously, I can understand people being dictators, but telling your people that you are a god this day in age? Anyways, North Korea seems like it has always just been that little country that thinks it can do what it wants, and tries to do so in very annoying ways. Personally, I think invading North Korea would be a good move to removing a major threat to the world. I think that any country with nuclear weapons that is actually making them to threaten others with their "might" should be deemed a threat the the world, and it's leaders removed from power.

well, it'd be nice if we can settle this without bloodshed but the korean war never ended. they never signed a treaty. they signed some sort of pact (i forgot what it's called) that puts the war on break and North Korea uses the threat that they can always press play. >.<''

GUNTER, I disagree with you. I think it would be stupid to attack any country. Just a waste of money, energy, and blood. And just a FYI, they have shut down their nuclear reactor in Yongbyon (spelling??) just last month. So it does show that they are being reasonable. This also shows that attacking them would be pointless. I think they just want the US help, and they do need it. It's not a very developed nation...and with the help of the US it could be...it seems like they want a closer relationship with the US. And Ohn~ that sounds interesting...although I have no idea what your talking about~ xD; I'd like to read about it though...

I think Korea needs new leadership, Not help from the US. Besides...they shut it down as a deal for Free stuff...it is only teaching them that if they want something they just have to become a threat to get it.

I don't think thats true. They are paying. Therefore it is not free stuff, and they are not exactly just getting what they want. They shut down the nuclear reaction, which lowers the chances of it being a big threat and they are obviously sacrificing some power to do this... therefore they are really not getting what they want. Of course, that's my view. You obviously just think it needs new leadership. But better this guy than his sons >>;

this is what i meant when i said the Korean war never ended

exactly from the book, minus the typos

THE KOREAN WAR NEVER ENDED
better not tell Hawkeye Pierce and the rest of the gang from M*A*S*H, but the korean war is tecfhnically still happening. this comes to us from no less an authority than Howard S. Levie, the man who drafted the Korean Armistice Agreement. at the time, this law professor was a captain in the office of the jedge general (jag). he explains:

"an armistice is not a peace treaty. while its main objective is to bring about ceas-fire, a halt in hostilities, that halt may be indefinite or for a specified period of time only. an armistice agreement does not terminate the state of war between the belligerents. a state of war continues to exist with all of its implications for the belligerents and for the neutrals."

the korean armistice itself even specifies that it is noloy a stop-gap measure "until a final peaceful settlement is achieved". to date, this settlement-otherwise known as a peace treaty- has never occured. one attempt was made, at the Geneva Convention of 1954, but nothing came out of it.

Hmm... well I can understand how it has not technically ended, and I yes yes admire you so much -hails- lol~; but aren't US troops there? Like around the border as well....? If so, it also kind of shows that the war did not end. Because, if it did, and they agreed on it, there would be no need for troops to be placed there. However, I guess happily ever after is just for fairy tales.

Thank you for sharing/quoting the book :]!~

Well yeah, don't ask them. Lol. That would be bad I guess...plus a lot of people don't enough keep up with whats going in back in their own countries. :[ its sad, but true. Plus, its sometimes hard to find legit sources on info on a country that's so far away... you can't tell what information is biased at all times. >.>~! Ah -.-; the media is such a great tool...but so evil all at the same time.

Yeah, I would agree media is a wondrous thing; in some cases, that is a good thing, in other cases, it isn't. In the US, it is sometimes considered even a fourth branch of government. So yeah, it can be...magical. But it can always delude the people from the whole truth from time to time, which makes it biased. I don't blame them, they need to gain popularity and sometimes it takes a biased and provoking piece to do that...but yeah...it can mislead people. On the other hand, if you are trying to use it for good, it can raise a lot of awareness about whatever problem that is going on. This forum is kind of like a form of media used to promote awareness~ but I am just not sure how far it will go xD~
